Dodge Repair: Computer, 2001 dodge stratus, dodge stratus

Hi Kevin,
My check engine light will not go out. I had it checked by a mechanic that tells me I need another at a cost of almost $1,000.00
The car has low mileage for a 2001 Dodge Stratus SE and is in perfect working order other than that.
Am I being taken to the cleaners with this quote for a new one? ALso, is this something that I can purchase and have replaced without going to a garage?

yep  1000  is all kinda high  the price I have for a computer  and that is if U have a non California car  The dealer price is 500 plus tax and well it does not cost 500 to install one.
First of all  how many miles do u have on the car? What was there reason for wanting to replace the PCM  what codes and so on?
