Hi,
What kind of unit did you buy?  The back up light switch is located on the side of the transmission.

Answer
Hi,
If the fan is working on high or any other mode it can not be the relay.  if the relay is bad it would simply not work.  Pull the fan switch and with a volt meter see if you have voltage comming off of the other modes.  If you have voltage comming off of the other modes then it is either in your wiring or in the blower moter itself.
