Land Rover Repair: Double Trouble, land rover discovery, auto electricians

Question
Hi John,  I just hit the wrong button on my key board and not sure if I sent the first part of my question so I will write it again.  My 96 Land Rover Discovery SE7 is having some problems with its brakes.  Once in a while when I step on the brakes the pedal will give a pulsing feeling and the brakes will not engage fully, and there is a slight whiring sound as well.  Needless to say the ABS light is on, but for some reason I just did.
Another problem my Rover is having is in the engine department.  Every once in a while I will be driving it and the engine will cut out of power for a few seconds then kick back in.  It feels like the governer is kicking in and holding the engine back.  This problem occurs at any speed, even idle.  Any info on the situation is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Randy,

Have your ABS system inspected.  A good OBDII reader or dealer testbook will reveal the error code that triggered by the ABS fault.  Could be the modulator, sensor or even worn brake pads.

As for the engine power cutting out...could be a ground fault problem between the battery or main engine fuse box.  Again, have someone check this out.  Most auto electricians could tell if there is an electrical short somewhere in you engine compartment.

I remember someone once describing a problem they had with their engine fuse box.  I think they complained of random power outage and it was linked to a ground fault problme within this fusebox.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
