Dodge Repair: 1996 neon, wild goose chase, neon highline

Question
I have a 1996 dodge neon highline with a 2 litre engine and an automatic transmission. The check engine light is on with an error code of 32 [egr valve].I replaced the egr valve, the light went out for a little while and is now back on.The exhaust smells like it is burning rich.Any ideas?
Thank You

Answer
Is the light back on for the same fault code or is it something different?  It could be something completely different and before I send you on a wild goose chase I'd like to make sure it's the same.

If at all possible I'd prefer to deal with a "P" code rather than the 2 digit Check engine light code.  Reason being is that code 27 and 43 have just as many possibilities as you've got cylinders.  Code 21 has over 20 different possibilities depending on vehicle.  A "P" code is very specific and I can give you a better response if I know what it is.  You can go to most parts stores and they can retrieve fault codes for anything 96 and newer.

Let me know what you can do there and get back to me.
