Dodge Repair: Have I damaged my clutch, clutch springs, steep grade

Question
I have a 2002 Stratus R/T with manual transmission and a 3.0L engine.  Last week, was stopped in traffic at a red light on a steep grade.  So to keep from rolling back I used the clutch to hold it in place by having the clutch slightly disengaged.  When traffic started to move I gave the car more gas and released the clutch.  The car had no power acting like it was taking off in 3rd gear from a dead stop and a strong odor was being emmitted.  Since I had someone close on my tail I couldn't pull the shifter out of gear and put it back in, which by the way was the means of resetting the tranny.  The thing is I haven't had any problems with the car since.  I don't know if something has been damaged or not.  Is it possible I've damaged the clutch even though there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it a week later?

Answer
It sounds like you slipped the clutch a little too much.  The odor you smelled was more than like the clutch (similar to that of following behind some 18 wheelers) and normally goes way after a day or two of driving.

In the future you should try not to slip the clutch too much and also while sitting at a stop light keep the car in neutral and shift in to gear right before you get the green light.  This will increase clutch life and prevent the clutch springs from wearing more.

You'll more than likely be ok in this case.
