Dodge Repair: We purchased a Dodge Grand..., dodge grand caravan, dodge grand caravan 2005

Question
We purchased a Dodge  Grand Caravan 2005 in December.  It has less than 5,000 miles.  We had the oil change at the dealer and then drove to Corpus 2 1/2 hours away and the engine started rattling when you started it and accelerated.  We took it back to dealer and the sixth rod in the engine has to be replaced.  Could something in the oil change caused this?  They were taking off the oil pan to figure out what was wrong.  What would cause this?

Thank you

Answer
Couldn't tell you for sure on that one, but sometimes if it ran on thi oil (such as 5W-30) adding thicker oil (such as 20W-50) would make the engine work harder and cause the rod to knock like that. Then again, it could have just been a defective engine, too. It happens sometimes, but not very coomon. Hope this helps!
