Dodge Repair: 88 Dakota Stalling, luck steve, timing light

Question
Steve,
I have an 88 Dakota with 156k. It had a lack of power and would stall on take off so I gave it a full tune up(plugs, wires, cap, air filter, good gas with injector cleaner).  Still bad.  Went to the Dealer and had a diagnostic and compression test done.  Compression was good on all cylinders.  Got codes for O2 sensor, speed sensor, and catalytic converter was clogged.  I changed all of the above as well as the fuel filter, disconected the battery to reset the computer and it still runs rough and stalls on start with feeling of lack of power but now no trouble codes.  When at a stop, if I floor it, there is a second of hesitation (no response by the engine at all) and then it will stall.  Runs ok at speed and seems to do a little better when it has heated up but still stalls at stop lights if I give it too much gas.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.

Matt

Answer
Matt,

You may want to look at the timing. some of the motors had a distribtor bushing that would go bad and cause the timing to be way off. just hook a timing light up to the motor and see where it is .

With no codes in it there is not much else it could be . maybe fuel presure.

Good luck
Steve
