Ford Repair: Ford Fusion, brake caliper, ford fusion

Question
"I have a 2008 Ford Fusion SE and I have had a chronic problem.  When I back up then drive forward and stop I here a noise coming from the front left wheel. Then when I continue driving forward I don't here the noise at all until I back up again stop drive forward and stop.  My car was under warranty so they have had new brakes put in the front left wheel twice.  The noise was gone for three months then returned.  The mechanics said the calipers are moving back and forth which is normal and this is causing the noise.  They are trying to tell me this is normal.  I never heard of a car that has a noise in it which is normal.  The other wheels don't make any noises.  Do you know what this might be.
Thanks
Barry"

Answer
This is and isn't normal. will it cause any problems, no. the problem your having is on some of the fusions there were no shims installed on the brake caliper bracket so you here the pad moving. you can buy the shims at any local dealer. there are multiple service messages about this. have them reference base part number 2v321
