Ford Repair: 1998 Ford Explorer, used car parts, car parts

Question
QUESTION: When I got my explorer it would disengage in the first ten minutes of driving and then it would reengage once the fluid got warm and it would be just fine the rest of the day with no problems, but i am now dealing with having my OD light flashing. My gears are set up P,N,D,2,1 with a OD on/ off push button. I have all my gears but D and OD. I have no metal shavings in my tranny pan. The fluid is still red. I replaced the TCS. I need advice on what the problem is. Any advice is appreciated.

ANSWER: Shawna, I am not expert in trans. However, it might be a stuck control valve.  That as far I can comment.

QUESTION: Thank you for giving me your feedback about my tranny problem. I will take a look and see what I come up with. Would a chilten's book help me to problem solve my tranny issue? What is a control valve?

Answer
Shawna, Chilton books are primarly for repairs, not for trouble shooting.  My best recommendation is online search, there is a vast amount of resources to help you diagnouse the problem.  The control valve, is valve that controls the hydraulic fluid pressure which control transmission shifting mechanizim.  Thanks!
