Ford Repair: 1997 Ford Thunderbird, ford thunderbird, 1997 ford thunderbird

Question
This is my mother-in-law's car.  It has under 80,000 miles.  She bought it new and it has been serviced at the dealership the whole time.

Friday the door would not unlock with the key fob so she used the key.  Then the car wouldn't start, even though lots of lights came on.  She called AAA and when the mechanic got there he opened the door with the key and turned the car on.

I then followed her to the dealership and we left the car.  They told her they couldn't start it again.  Here's the part I'm not sure about.  They're saying there's a security system that prevents the car from starting if you can't open the door with the key fob.  Also since the car is so old they cannot find the parts to repair it.

Does this make any sense to you?  I appreciate your help and/or advice.

Answer
hey there, beleive it or not that does actually make sense after a vehicle hits about the age of 10 years alot of parts will go vintage or obselete from the ford cataluges, you may be able to get used parts for this and have the ford dealer program the module or whatever to the vehicle.. let me know what happens good luck
