Ford Repair: trans, vehicle speed sensor, ford bronco

Question
i have a question that has puzzled myself and the mechanic that has had my truck for two weeks i have a 95 ford bronco and the speedometer doesn't work anymore it used to go to zero when the brake was applied now doesn't even work the transmission shifts really hard when this happens as if it doesn't sense that its supposed to be shifting as a result it feels like it is slamming into gear or the truck is like jumping into gear and then the overdrive light will flash on and off also the abs light is on i don't know if this has anything to do with the problem. The mechanic that i have looking at it said i would need a new Trans all together but some of the things i found online make me belive it may be a vehicle speed sensor i was wondering what you thought it may be seeing that a new Trans would be to expensive i was also informed that here maybe more than one speed sensor is this true?

Answer
hey there, that mechanic doesnt know what he is talking about then, the speed sensor is defintly the ansewere to your question. it has a plastic gear on it and sometimes that wears out and breaks apart, it is also very easy to replace, it will be on the tailshaft of the transmsission, ( close to the output shaft )
the hard shifting is because the tansmission doesnt know how fast the vechicle is traveling, so without the input of speed it relies on transmission oil pressure to determin what gear to be in in, this is a default mode, and the shifts a usualy hard, replace this sensor and the plastic gear just to be safe and let me know what happenes.
good luck
