Ford Repair: 1989 Ford Escort water leak., manual transmition, weep hole

Question
I have a 1989 Ford Escort Pony with a 1.9L and a manual transmition. I just had to have the timing belt changed as it broke. I've now noticed a bad anti-freeze leak coming from the timing belt cover area. When I first got the car back from the mechanic that changed the belt it was just a drip but it's now a full blown leak. I guess he didn't notice the drip at the time as he said nothing to me about it. Anyway, I was wondering if this could be the water pump? I have no idea because I'm not sure where the pump is. If it is the pump will the timing belt have to be removed again?
Thank you.

Answer
Unfortunately it needs to be torn back down. The water pump is turned by the timing belt. Standard procedure is to replace the water pump while you have access to it. The leak is either from the water pump gasket itself, or the weep hole at the bottom of the pump, which leaks indicating a faulty pump. It may have damaged some of the timing belt components and or the belt itself. It's not designed to get wet.
