Ford Repair: Brake light stay on sometimes, windstar, shaft

I have a 2000 windstar sel. The brake lights stay on some times after having applied the brake pedal. Few times the cruise would not set. I think the problem is an adjustment for the switch under dash on the pedal. My question is how do I adjust this to give more room for travel so the lights won't stay On.  Thank you for your time and answer, Gerald

hey there, some times the switch itself will bind up and stick, if it only happens sometimes then i would just replace the switch, they are fairly inexpensive and easy to replace,  to adjust it, there is a threaded shaft that goes into a bracket with two nuts to pinch it to the braacke, just simply wind the inner nut down untill the brake lights go out and then tighten it to the bracket by torqing down the follwing nut.
