Ford Repair: Engine swap?, obd 1, f250 diesel

Question
Hi- I know you said your stong suit isn't diesel, but I thought I would check with you anyway.
I have a 1997 f250 diesel, the engine went out of it this fall and im looking at buying a 1994(later part of the year model)powerstroke f 350.
mainly I would buy the 94 for the engine but as long as it is a 1 ton I was gonna do an axle swap also, eliminating the split I-beam front end.
But my main concern is will the 94 engine install in the 97? Now I know the blocks are the same but will the injectors and all the wiring components match up or will I have to change injectors, computer, cam sensor?
the 94 engine has 156000 miles on it and it is a dually 1 ton 4x4. My 97 250 is an extended cab long bed.
thank you for your time.

Answer
Yes, my strong suit is not diesel. I do know that the 1994 will be OBD-1 and the 1997 will be OBD-2. This will be a night and day difference in regards to sensors, etc.  Also, you didn't explain which displacement size you had, and whether it was tubo or not. I know that would make it a problem with gasoline, and I am pretty certain that it will make a difference. I hope that helps you out. Sorry that it took so long to get back, I was on a expert vacation and hadn't checked my mail in a while. Please come back with any other questions that you may have, or just need confirmed.
