Ford Repair: brakes, rear brakes, paddels

Question
QUESTION: I have a 97 ford e-150 I just put new pads on the front and checked the rears (there good), when I go to stop the front brakes grab and the rears don't. I've checked the adjustment on the rear and its right where it should be.I was told there is a distribution valve on this could that be the problem? thanks Doug

ANSWER: First, I would make sure that rear brakes mechanisem is working properly, by removing the drums and have someone press the paddels and insure that the mechanisom is functioning.  As for proportioning valve, I don't recall such valve on the vehical.  However, I will check for it.

QUESTION: The brake mechanism is working the valve that I meant to say is a proportioning valve. If this isn't it anything else that could be wrong? thanks Doug

Answer
Doug, I am puzzled, if the rear mechanism works, I don't understand why it would not work while in operation???  I looked it up and I don't think you have a proportioning valve, however, I could be wrong.  My only suggestion is to find a repair manual for your model and review the break system.
