Ford Repair: 2001 Ford Escape misfire, spark plug wire, ford escape

Question
I have a 2001 Ford Escape, it is idling rough and sometimes dies on me. My engine light came on and I had the folks at Auto Zone give me a computer print out. It said there was a cylinder 4 misfire. What should I do without spending a ton of money?

Answer
You will have to be a little more detailed in you're explanation please. Is it a 4 cyl. or a 6 cyl.Either way,the first move is to have is tuned up.Stay on task and just do that. The only deviation in you're plan if you find a part that is clearly defective.Hanging off, broken, etc.If you're really tight for money, you can just pull the number 4 spark plug and replace it.Pulling a code requires at least five failures.Long story short,it's fouled and definitely requires replacement.Always take baby steps as a unexperienced mechanic.Change one spark plug at a time, and one spark plug wire at a time.Doing this should assure you're ability to cross wire the firing order, which would be counter productive.
