Ford Repair: 93 Escort acceleration problems, timing belt tensioner, acceleration problems

Question
Three months ago I replaced my timing belt and water pump, after belt broke, on a 93 escort 1.9l auto. Drove better than ever for about a week, and then intermittently would hesitate when accelerating from a stop. Sometimes it would take about 3-5 secs for the engine to respond after depressing gas pedal, and after a while the problem would go away. I have since replaced fuel pump, sending unit, fuel filter, plugs/wires, ignition coil pack, oxygen sensor, crank position sensor, and anything else under $20, and problem slowly became less intermittent. Now, two months later, everytime I start the car, it runs perfect for about 5 min. Once it warms up, I can floor the gas pedal and 10-25 secs later the engine will slowly revv up and start accelerating until it shifts into second, and the process starts again.
It is incredibly awesome that you spend time advising others with matters beyond them, and what ails my car is certainly beyond me.
Thanks

Answer
The timing belt tensioner may be sticking or malfunctioning.I hate to be the bearer of bad news like this. One thing that I would check first is the catalytic converter. This can be checked with an infrared thermometer. There should be a 100 degree increase after the catalytic converter. Most of you're muffler shops will be able to test that before you go back into the timing belt.
