Motorcycle Repair: 1971 cb100 spark, magnetic rotor, point gap

Question
The engine has compression, and i have no kick start so i am push starting it. the battery is no good and we tried to spray some ether and drop it into gear, didn't work no spark. had the coil tested and it is fine and the points seem to be good. someone told me to check the stator, but i don't know where it is and cant find a replacement. any thoughts on what it could be would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Jeremy, go there for a wiring diagram.

The ignition system is battery powered. Try push-starting your car with a bad battery and you get the same results. It has no spark, because you have no battery in place.

Stator is wrapped round the magnetic rotor on the left end of the crankshaft. online pictures are here:

The points must be gapped about .014" at the highest point of the point cam, then move the point plate until the points just OPEN at the F mark on the flywheel/rotor.

Many of these engines have loose camshafts in the head, so this affects the point gap, which affects the ignition timing. Cam too loose, you will never get it timed correctly.

Check all your wiring connections, spend $25 for a battery and go riding....
