Ford Repair: 2001 Ford ZX2 Air Condition, 2001 ford zx2, ac hoses

Question
The air-condition for my 2001 Ford ZX2 usually blows very cold, however earlier this week it started blowing hot air. After several minutes of messing with the temp controls and even looking under the hood the air condition started blowing cold air again. Today the problem reoccurred and I have not been able to get the cold air to blow! I checked and replaced the fuse and that did not solve the issue.

Please help!

Answer
First thing to check is whether the AC compressor clutch is engaged when you are getting hot air. You can also check this by feeling the AC hoses or pipes, one will be warm to hot, the other should be cool or frosty. The larger pipe should be the cool one. If this checks out ok, then you may have a malfunction in the blend door area. Something may have fallen thru the defroster vents and gotten stuck inside blocking the blend door, although this is more prevalent in vans where stuff is left on the dash.

This car uses a cable to operate the blend door, so unless the cable mounting is cracked or broken they are usually trouble free. Are you getting hot air like the heater is on, or is it hot outside air??? To offer further help I will need to know if the AC compressor is operating correctly or not. You either have a compressor or temperature blending issue, hard to tell from here which is the problem.
