Ford Repair: Check engine light, cv joints, clunk

Question
I have a 96 windstar with 187000 miles it runs great but keeps flashing P1537 and P1538 (Intake Manf Runner Ctrl Stuck Open Bank 1 & 2)any ideas what the problem is? Also getting alot of clunking in the front is it struts? Or could it be CV Joints?

Answer
Dion-

The manifold runner controls direct air into one of two set of runners of the intake manifold.  On variable runner intakes you've got two sets of runners on the manifold...one that's better for lower rpm power and more better suited for higher rpm power.  Normally the runner controllers switch between the two as needed, but if it's stuck obviously it's not going to switch.  This isn't usually a big problem as the different runners aren't different enough to cause a drastic change in driveability...your engine just won't perform as well as it could.  However, if it's causing issues while driving, it's probably best to get it repaired.  It shouldn't be too terribly expensive.  As for the clunk, it's really hard to diagnose without hearing it first hand.  If I had to guess (and I do), my money would be on a loose/worn suspension part or a bad CV joint.  Hope this helps.
