Ford Repair: ford 2001 intake manifold leak, david answer, leak air

Question
QUESTION: I went to get my stang inspected and the guy said as I was driving into the bay that I had air intake manifold leak.  I have heard the sound he was talking about.  Is this an easy fix or am i looking at some major bucks.  He said something about an o ring.  Any sugesstions will help thank you
David

ANSWER: There are dozens of places where an intake manifold can leak air.  You didn't say which engine your stang has so I can't even take a guess where the problem may be.  In general, the most common places for any intake to leak are...
1) anywhere a hose or tube is attached to it
2) where the upper intake attaches to the lower intake
3) where the fuel injectors meet the lower intake

If they mentioned an O-ring this "could" mean the O-ring found on the fuel injector, but some engines use a seal between the upper and lower intake that looks like an O-ring too.  With the engine running, listen close to the noise and see if you can hear where it's coming from.  Use a spray bottle of water to spray different places on the intake, when you spray the place that is leaking, the engine will run rough.  Good luck,
Jason

QUESTION: I thought I put in my subject 3.8l engine 6 cyl.  When I look at my engine with it running, sounds like from the valve area to the right as i face it.  When i look closer, looks like oil has accumulated aroung the bck part of the manifold like something is lose or not sealed.  Does that help?

Answer
I know that some of those can leak at the PCV valve which I believe is on the driver side valve cover toward the back of the engine.  Try the water spray trick, if the small hose attached to the top of the PCV valve is cracked it will leak there. Let me know what you find.
