Ford Repair: engine tech question, electric fuel pump, stock parts

Question
Is it possible to convert a 1985 5.0 EFI engine to a carburated engine and make it opperate with a 1977 302 wire harness with a standard 302 distributor?

Actually, that's a pretty easy swap.  All you really need to do is ditch all of the electronics and sensors and just use the same stuff you'd use for an carburated engine.  It would probably be easier to run a low pressure electric fuel pump rather than a mechanical one just because you'd have to replace the timing chain cover and find a cam button with a fuel pump eccentric (not all that hard, but it's just easier to use the electric pump).  I'd recommend sticking with a 5.0L distributor.  I don't think you'd run into any problems using a 302 distributor, but just about the only difference between a 5.0L and a 302 is the camshaft base circle and, since the distributor is run off of the cam, there's a slim chance it could cause issues.  The truth is I'm just not sure.  I've done this same swap (EFI to carb) a few times and I've had good results with a full MSD setup (ignition control box, coil, and distributor).  I'm sure the stock parts would work ok, though.  Hope this helps.
