Ford Repair: 95 f-150 4.9L 4x4, vacuum leaks, air control valve

Question
Hello, when starting my truck the engine revs extremely high for the first few seconds. So high that it may loose a
connecting rod or worse. This happens on cold starts  especially
but also after the engine has cooled for awhile. It has a
4 speed standard tranny with overdrive. 1995 4.9l in line 6.
thanks

Answer
Hello Rob,
It seems like you need to replace the idle air control valve(near or on the throttle body). It is probably stuck, which is a common problem on older Fords. I can't think of anything else except for vacuum leaks, so check for that first. Good luck!   Shaun.
