Ford Repair: electrical issues with fuses being blown, dash dials, selonoid

Question
To start I'd like to say thanks for listening, secondly my question is: complex, it started while driving, the dash dials started bouncing all over, then the battery light came on. I isolated the alternator, then the battery even took to autozone whom said the alternator appeared to be putting out too many amps and was not constant amperage out. The alt has not been replaced yet, Next - the truck started blowning fuses, the interior lights will not stay on without blowing the fuse and theres another fuse blowing as well. Also the vehicle smoked my indash stereo, it just started smoking and the unit - stereo - has been in the truck for about 2 yrs. So I removed it from the loop, check the wiring, nothing appeared to be grounded. Next, I discovered the vehicle's gear shifter, at the steering wheel, will not move out of Park, unless the vehicle is off and no power applied, i can then move it to N and start then to drive and so on but once placed back in part, its locked again and lastly I replaced the battery, same results, checked the after market wiring, units, same results, then I removed and disconnected the selonoid at the end of the steering column near the brake pedal. Negative results, don't know why fuses are being blown with mostly everything isolated and dont know why I cant shift the gearshifter. Can you help? Thanks in advance
Sincerely, Anthony

Answer
Hello Anthony,
The voltage regulator in the alternator seems to be faulty from what you are describing , because it is obviously overcharging. I can't think of any other causes. You should replace it, and I recommend a Motorcraft brand alternator(available with the right effort, or get it from the dealer). The "autozone" unit might not make it out of the driveway. I can't think of any other causes. Hope for your sake, you don't need to ask me anything else! Thanx, from Shaun.
