What is a reasonable price for the repair of a 1999 Ford Ranger Transmission, and why do I need a new one if the truck is not even 10 years old?

          Assuming this is an automatic transmission and it needs an overhaul, its not out of the ordinary to spend just upwards of about $2K. I like to use the remanufactured units purchased from the dealer because the warranty is honored across the country. There are quite a few factors that cause trans. failure : the type of driving you do; mileage; infrequent service; climate and dust. Your problem is atually not too uncommon. I hope this helps.
