Ford Repair: 1980 BOSS 302???, chevy guy, boss 302

Question

This is probably a stupid question but I am basically a CHEVY guy so please excuse my ignorance.
My son has purchased a 1970 F100 with a small block V-8. The seller said the previous owner had claimed the engine was a BOSS 302 he had swapped out for the original 302. The engine has a factory aluminum intake and, what sounds like, a mild cam. However, from the block numbers, (E0AE D3C 3 and a 80 on a lower flange), it would seem to be a 1980 model engine.
There were no BOSS 302's made in this year, were there? I am thinking this is probably a regular 1980 302CI with a real Boss 302 intake and valve covers? Maybe a BOSS factory or similar aftermarket cam?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. The engine needs a tuneup and I have no idea what plugs, timing, etc to use.

Answer
Rick-

Yeah...there were no Boss 302s made after the early 70's.  In fact, genuine Boss engines or parts (either for the 302 or 351) are pretty hard to come by and really expensive.  My guess is that the guy you bought it from made a few minor upgrades and decided to call it a Boss motor.  Hope this helps.
