Mazda: Rx7 cranks but wont start, engine cranks, fuel test

Question
I have a 1983 rx7 and the engine cranks over but it just won't start any clue

Answer
Shoot, I'm sorry that you didn't get my original response. It was very long, so I think the All Experts system choked on it.

Let me say that this is my favorite car ever.

Now then, there are two things that can cause a car not to fire when cranking. No fuel, and no spark.

To check for fuel, simply disconnect the large hose from the driver's side of the carburetor. Place the hose in a container of some kind. Clear containers are preferable. Click the key into the "ON" position. Do not start the car. Leave the key in the on position for about 5 seconds. If you have a decent puddle of gasoline in the bottom of the container, then you have sufficient fuel. At this point, it is possible that there is still an obstruction in the carburetor itself, but we will leave that possibility for last.

Note: Gasoline is very flammable, so no smoking, no spilling, no ignition sources etc. If you spill any gas, clean it up right away. Always have a fire extinguisher near by. If you don't have an extinguisher, then have a garden hose near by that is turned on and ready to spray.

If you do not have good fuel supply, then you may need to replace the fuel filter or the fuel pump. The filter and pump are located under the car near the driver's side rear tire.

Actually, when you turn the key to the on position, you should hear the pump making a clickity clackity sound. If there is no sound, then the pump is bad or there is no power being supplied to it.

Do your fuel test and get back to me.
