Ford Repair: 1997 ford contour, air flow meter, ford contour

Question
I replaced the fuel filter, plugs, wires, and still have a problem.  The car runs OK when it's cold.  After a few minutes when i try to get up to speed lets say,  it spits and sputters.  The RPMs do not climb.  If I put the clutch in and hammer on the excellorator,  it will kind of catch and run a little better.  Down the highway, it will run fine unless I want to pass, or go up a hill.  It will loose power up the hill unless I floor it, But will gain a little speed when doing this. Any suggestions.  What about a faulty fuel injector?

Answer
Ray,

You need to check a few basics first. I would suggest checking your fuel pressure with a good gauge. It should hold steady around 32-35 psi running then drive it and watch the fuel pressure increase to around 40psi when your on the throttle and it should hold steady under hard acceleration.  Next, check your air intake system for leaks. Any air that does not pass through the air flow meter will cause the engine to starve for fuel. Be sure to check the flexible part as I have seen cracks that will close up at idle, but when the engine torques up and moves it pulls it open and will cause an air leak.
