Ford Repair: ford vibration, ford f 250, ball joints

Question
I have a 2005 ford f-250 supercab.  Twice so far I have hit a bump or pothole in excess of 55mph and the truck starts to violently shake uncontrollably from right to left. Almost like it is going to violently shake apart, it's that bad. It happens continuously until I get the truck under 30 mph. Quite scary when you are flying down the highway. It seems as if the suspension is in perfect rhythm shaking from right to left and back. Obviously it's something difficult to explain to a mechanic since its only happened twice in a year and only under ideal circumstances.

Answer
Ford issued a recent technical service bulletin (TSB) that MAY relate to your vehicle. You should check with your Ford dealer to see if this applies to your truck. Looks to me like it mainly applies to 4X4, gas engine models, but the dealer can run your vin thru the system to see if it falls under this tsb. Have them enter codes for steering, vibration, and other related systems to find the tsb and it's relevance to your truck.

TSB 06-22-14 is the one your looking for, it spells out "excessive steering wheel oscillation after front wheel impact". You should definitely have the ball joints, steering, and frame mountings checked out.
