Question
Hi Josh remember me from last week? we're still having trouble w/ my bmw 318i continue to keep running after it starts..Do you know the timing specifications for this model...maybe we have a timing problem..or if you have any suggestions, we are open...help...kymberly

Answer
Kymberly,
There aren't really "timing specifications", it's either on or off!.  You have marks on the timing belt/chain gears, and they should match with a mark on the engine block.  Once both are lined up put the belt/chain on and your done.

However, I highly doubt you have a timing issue, this would be like having a bump on a tire.  No matter how fast you go, you will feel the bump/vibration.  So no matter how long the engine runs, if it's out of time it will run poorly ALL the time.  Actually it would be harder to start than anything.  Another issue that will tell you if it's out of time is when the engine spits exhaust back through the intake.

Did you check those temperature sensors on the thermostat housing?  They are notorious for causing idle issues

 Good luck,
 Josh
