Ford Repair: 95 Escort cooling fan problem, fan work, cooling fan

Question
The cooling fan on my 95 escort station wagon doesn't work properly. I have tested the fan by connecting it directly to to 12v.  Both speeds work properly.  It works fine with the A/C on. When the engine is started the fan work for about 20sec then stops. The fan does not start up to cool the engine as it heats up.  What is wrong?

Answer
Could be a number of things, fan relay, temp switch not working correctly, open wire. You need to backtrack from the fan and find the open.

Walt, sorry you didn't like my response. Some days I don't have time to get into a lot of details. You should probably find a manual to help you with the fan circuit. I cannot provide step by step instructions on most questions. Most people don't understand what I describe for them to do with them watching me do it, so I have no way of knowing who will understand technical terms and who won't. I still think you need to follow the fan circuits and find on open or inoperative part.
