Ford Repair: 89 ford 302 water pump, seal leaks, mileage vehicle

Question
i am having problems with my truck's water pump. we put new gaskets on the water pump and silicone and its still leaking really bad and we tried just silicone and just the gasket and the gasket and silicone and it still is not working and just leaks really bad..... when we put the water hose in the rad, it looked like the leak was coming from under the water pump and we cant figure out how to fix the leakind like the water drains out of there at a good pace not just a drip. so maybe u can help me figure it out as soon as possible would be great thank you.....

Answer
Are you sure the leak isn't from the pump? When the shafy seal leaks the fluid comes out the vent hole of the bottom of the pump. If this is a high mileage vehicle and the coolant was neglected you may have a leak from the timing cover, these are known to erode over time. It may even have pitting in the water pump mating surface that no amount of silicone can fix.
