Ford Repair: mustang rear brakes, rear brakes, adjustable crescent wrench

Question
Hi Steve, I am trying to replace the pads on the rear brakes.  I am having trouble getting the piston in far enough to get the new pads on. Can you give me some advice on how to go about this?  I bought a C-clamp to try and compress it but am having no luck even when I open the bleeder nozzle.  It is a 2002 Mustang with disc brakes on front and rear.  Thanks.

Answer
John-

You'd be amazed how often I get this question.  Simply put, the rear calipers don't just push in like the fronts do...they have to be screwed back in.  If you're particularly industrious you can sometimes get them back in with regular hand tools like an adjustable crescent wrench.  Otherwise, do the easy thing and buy a rathet adapter from your local auto parts store.  It should be less than $10 and makes everything a whole lot easier.  Hope this helps.
