Chrysler Repair: 41te in 1999 dodge caravan, dodge caravan, planetary gears

Question
QUESTION: Subject   41te in 1999 dodge caravan
Question   My 41te has 140,000 + on it and it seems that the spider cross pin has came out and poked a hole in the case. I understand in 2008 there was a recall on these transmissions, but I can't seem to find out any information on this. Also, I have not been able to find a replacement used or rebuildable core for this van. It is a 3.8 engine FWD with a date code of 3-99. Any Ideas on this one.
Thank you in advance,
Bill.

Answer   Hi William,
I would ask Kevin as he works at a Chrysler agency and has access to all the recalls, etc.

I just saw your question in the 'pool' to which it had been referred after 'shopteacher' dropped out of the service, apparently.

ANSWER: the 99 41te  has nothing to do with any improvements with a 08 mini van  the 08 have a 62te  not the same tranny  and no recall for that year would also cross reference to a 99 412te any way.
what are u asking any way? if it popped a hole in the case  U haft to at least get a new case  if U are asking if there are updated spider gear  or planetary gears  yes there are  it goes from a 3 gear to 4 gear setup.

QUESTION: Well, I would not be the first time I have been told something that was untrue. Most of the forums I visited on the subject said that Chrysler has had a lot of trouble in the last 20 years with the 41te transmissions. Some of them spoke about a recall on these tranys. All the junk yards I have called also said these were troublesum transmissions. They say they have a waiting list and as soon as one comes in it is sold weather it works or not. I have people in 9 states looking for this one. Ham radio pays off at times. My van itself is not worth sticking a ton of money into. The body is starting to fall apart. I did find one rebuilt unit for $1900.00 plus $250.00 to ship it to me from 4 states away. I feel Chrysler may have missed the boat on this one.

Answer
I will admit the 41te had issue in the beginning the people building them from the factory had the snap rings all wrong  and made it fail with in 70k. I have been trained by one of the men that was sent up to Chrysler corp to figure out why they fail at 70k  and it was found server things  the guys building them once they were rebuilt from a shop where not using the correct tools to put them back in the case correctly  and the snap ring orientation was also wrong.
Try this place  I like them for used parts.
