Ford Repair: FORD E-150 BRAKES (1994), power booster, master cylinder

Question
Hi Erik
My problem is with my brakes I barely have any. I replaced my master cylinder and bled it and the wheels and I still can't get them to work properly. The pedal is traveling all the way down to the floor before I can get the vehicle to stop and that's barely. Do you think that maybe my brake power booster has gone bad and need to be replaced or maybe I need to power bleed the whole system. I would greatly appreciate your expertise.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
On ANY brake system that's conventional, when you have replaced the master cylinder you NEED to do a few things.
1. bench bleed the master cylinder that is going in the vehicle.
2. start at the furthest point from the master cylinder and work towards it. This meaning right rear (passenger side), left rear (drivers side), right front (passenger side), left front.
This way you'll work ALL of the air trapped in the system out.
Also......IF your power booster has died....your pedal would be ROCK HARD.....and not stop the vehicle at all.
If you stall have problems in bleeding the system......take everything out and start fresh. Remember, when bleeding the system to keep the master cylinder FULL at all times.
