Ford Repair: Speedometer issues, eddie bauer, ford dealer

Hi Erik,

I have a 96 full size Eddie Bauer. The speedo jumps from 0 to 70 and sometimes doesn't work at all. Tach works fine, no abs lights come on and we did replace the sensor. I called our local Ford dealer and they say its probably the Instrument Cluster and its $400, I say BS, but I need some good advice on what it may be and if it really is the cluster.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
What I would suggest is that you hook up a scan tool and try to "see" what's going on while driving (have a friend help). Check the VSS  and check if it's bouncing around ot not reading at all.
