Ford Repair: 1986 Ford Mustang, ford mustang, nuetral

the problem is that when i start the car and put it in gear it stalls. I can put the car in nuetral and start it back up but when i put it in drive it stalls, What could be wrong? I was told something about a sensor inside the transmission but i am not sure where it is located.  

The car is a 1986 Ford mustang a 4cyl engine and automatic transmission with overdrive

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I don't know who told you that..but they are incorrect. There isn't a sensor in the transmission of that year that will stall the engine. What I would suggest is that you have the coputer system checked for fault codes and go from there.
