Toyota Repair: 1987 Toyota Camry, 1987 toyota camry, toyota camry

Question
I have a 1987 Toyota Cmary 4 cylinder. However, the stop lights are not working. I check the stoplight swith and also replace it with a new one, but the problem still there.

I went and purchased the repair manual for the said car, but I haven,t check anything else as yet.
What you think is the problem?

Thank you
Clarence.

Answer
check the rear left trunk hinge. The wire for the trunk lights get caught in the hinge and shorts out the lamp failure relay.
The relay is in the trunk under the left side trim panel, up near the top.
Take it out, take it out of the box and look for a burnt mark on the circuit board. You can solder a piece of wire in there to repair. Repair the trunk harness as nec.and also check the STOP fuse.
