Ford Repair: 292 Y-block, 1956 ford customline, wooden dowel

Question
Rear seal is leaking, and I was wondering if it can be replaced without raising engine to get the oil pan off.   and what is the difficulty of pushing the upper seal out, as the new one is pushed thru...This is in a 1956 ford customline car.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Nope...the oil pan HAS to be removed and the rear main cap needs to come off for the replacement of the oil seal. As far as the upper portion of the seal .......I've always used a wooden dowel to tap it out.....DO NOT use a screwdriver, IF you slip you can damage the engine or bearing surface.
Hope this helps,
Erik
