Ford Repair: Taurus Rev Limiter, range sensor, govenor

Question
I have a 2003 Taurus LX, 3.0 Vulcan motor, 40,000 miles. I have a problem with what may be my rev limiter. While I am driving down the road I am not able to accelerate the engine above approx. 3400 rpm as it will start to drop cylinders like the rev limiter is engaging. This only happens after the vehicle has warmed up,will not do it cold.I have replaced the Trans. range sensor but still have the same problem. Any Ideas? Thank You

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Sorry, I've never heard of Ford using a "rev limiter" on anything else but a race engine or the govenor on a diesel. I would suggest that you have the vehicle checked for fault codes and go from there.
Hope this helps,
Erik
