Ford Repair: Airbag sensers-front, continuity tester, ford garage

Question
Oh yes, she only hurt her pride. My husband had an extra one since we bought an entire front end off a differnt 97 Taurus, he took it a part. It appears that what the ball bearing does when it is dislodged from the cap is it causes a dead short and that is what activates the air bag. Can you confrim this? He seems to be confident in his findings.

Our daughter was attacked by one of those elusive "moving trees" and needed some minor front end body repair on her 97 Ford Tauras. We are down to re-assembling it. Is there an electronic test you can do with a dwel or continuity tester to see if the air bag sensors will not activate as soon as we re-introduce power to the system. I do not want to, after all of our work connect the battery and have the air bag go off. I think they use some kind of a magnetic system.
Thanks, Please excuse any spelling errors.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Sorry to hear about your daughter, hope she is Ok. As far as the Air bag, DO NOT fool around with it. Bring it to the dealer to get re-activated.
Hope this helps,
Erik

Hello and thanks for the reply...I'll try to help.
As far as I know, that is correct, about the ball. BUT, as far as testing the air bag system.......the person doing the testing NEEDS a low impedence Ohm meter. THe regular ones will actually cause the system to activate and trip the air bag.
Please bring it to the Ford garage.
Hope this helps,
Erik
