Ford Repair: Intake Air Control Valve, air control valve, ford taurus

Question
My auto is a 1992 Ford Taurus with the 3.8L V6, AT & AC.

At times the car stalls upon stopping after deceleration (at a stop light for example)and the "check engine" light briefly appears.  Car immediately restarts and runs normally.

Perhaps the idle is set too low.  There is a black vinyl covered knob on the side of the IAC valve on top of the intake manifold, which can be turned.  What does this do?  By turning it, can I adjust the IAC valve so that my problem is solved?  If not, what should I do?

Thanks

R. Taylor

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
The black plastic cap on the IAC (Ford calls it a ISC...Idle Speed Control motor), does not adjust the idle. It is a vent for the motor.
I would suggest that since the check engine light comes on, that you get the computer checked for engine and or transmission codes, and go from there. The codes that are stored in the computer will lead you to a correct diagnosis and a better resolution of the problem.
Hope this helps,
Erik
