Ford Repair: Over Drive Doesnt Work Past 35 MPH in My 93 T-Bird, overdrive band, delima

Question
Hello! I need help figuring out this delima! I was told by someone that I need a new transmission for my 93 Ford T-bird. When the gear is in overdrive it quits at around 35 MPH. When it's in D it works fine but when you hit 50 MPH it wants to shift and doesn't. I know minimal things about cars. My ex-husband took care of that stuff but when he left me, he took the good vehicles and I had to buy this car to get around. Does this sound bad? Please respond. Thank you!

Rebecca-

I suppose it depends on how you define "bad".  I'd venture to guess at the very least you'll need a new overdrive band for the transmission.  When they wear out (and they will almost certainly wear out eventually), the transmission can't hold overdrive so it slips out of gear or never engages it to begin with.  At the very most, you're looking at a transmission rebuild.  If you've got the cash to swing a rebuild, I would recommend doing that anyway unless the car has few miles.  After 12 years that transmission is probably due for a refresher.  Hope this helps.
