Ford Repair: Key stuck in ignition- 1997 Ford Escort Wagon, ford escort wagon, key stuck in ignition

My 1997 Ford Escort key is stuck in the ignition.  This happened the first time about a month ago.  It has stuck but usually come out.  This time I can't remove it.  What is the problem?
It is a 1997 Ford Escort wagon.

The tumblers inside of the ignition are probably worn and coming apart.  The ignition will need to be replaced.  I would take the vehicle to the Ford Dealer for service soon.  The ignition may stop turning, the vehicle would then have to be towed in and it might cost more for repairs.
