Is it hard to replace the head gasket?

  I suppose that depends on your definition of "hard".  Even with moderate-good mechanical skills and good tools, it will probably take you around 4 hours.  You'll also need to know how to properly set the engine up again after you bolt everything back on.  If you're no stranger to engine work then you could probably get through it fairly easily.  Otherwise I would consider having a shop do it.  Hope this helps.
