Ford Repair: Check Headlights Error After Running Systems Check, correct model, headlights

Question
We bought a 1995 Explorer Limited a while back and it has always had a CHECK HEADLIGHTS ERROR OR FAULT after the systems check is finished...All Lights are working. I think I may have read about only using Motorcraft bulbs??? Sounds silly, but is that true? Is their something I can do , so I won't have to keep resetting this??/ Thanks, Todd

Answer
No, you don't have to install a specific brand of bulb, when you open a Motorcraft headlight bulb box you'll usually find a Sylvania bulb.  I don't believe that Motorcraft manufactures any bulbs.  First, make sure that all of the bulb are of the recommended model number.  They could all work fine, but be drawing the wrong amount of current and this could effect the vehicle's Lamp Out Warning Module.  If all of the bulbs are working and are the correct model, I'd guess that the Lamp Out Warning Module is bad.

I hope this helps,
