Ford Repair: component location, recliner mechanism, rear view mirror

Question
Do you have a picture or diagram of where I can find the sensor for the overhead console compass and temperature on a ford explorer 1996.  The digital temp and compass read incorrectly. Also, my front driver seat handle broke off at the point where the metal connected to the plastic handle and the seat is. I found the part at a junkyard, but it looks like it is welded on. Do I need the whole seat handle mechanism, or can I just replace the metal handle?  Thanks

Answer
If your "digital temp and compass read incorrectly" I would guess it is not the temprature sender but the Compass/Outside Air Temperature Module.  I beleive on this vehicle, it is a small box mounted under the rear view mirror.  The broken seat handle must be replaced with the seat recliner mechanism.  Both of these repairs are common to this vehicle, and both parts have been redesigned.  Most Dealers have them in stock.

I hope this helps,
Dave
