Ford Repair: Heater/Speedo, speedometer cable, blown fuse

This question is in regaurd to my 97 Ford Taurus GL.  I had someone break into my car and cleanly cut all my heater and radio controls.  I tried using butts to reconnect the wires but i ended up with 3 extra wires after I butted everything together.  it worked except for the front vents. To add insult to injury when I cut into a 12-14 guage solid blk wire it sparked and now my speedo doesnt work. I shouldn't have been lazy and disconnected the - battery cable, but its too late.  could that just be a blown fuse, or do I need a new speedometer???

You will probably need a new speedometer cable as it sounds like you burned up the one you have. Second, I would recommend that you get your self a good automotive wiring book. They are quite reasonable and would be of the most help with your wiring difficulties. Hope that this helps and good luck.
