Motorcycle Repair: Aux. Pull start repair, bikebandit com, chain saws

Question
I have a 2000 yamaha big bear 400.  The aux. pull start is not retracting correctly.  Would like to know if there is anything special I need to know before tearing it apart to clean and lubricate. I'm worried about the spring flying out when I remove the housing, as I've never had one of these apart on an atv but from working on chain saws and other small engines I know this can be tricky sometimes.  Any other information on doing this job would be appreciated.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Mike,

With most repairs, there's things to know and ways to do things. My advice is to get a copy of the service manual and review the work before starting.

View microfiche parts at and compare OEM parts prices at "www.bikebandit.com" and "www.yamaha-motor.com"

Visit "www.atvfrontier.com" This is a good ATV resource.
