Ford Repair: 300 6 cylinder, knoledge, gaskets


Question
i have a 84 f250 with a 300 6 cylinder i cant get it to idle its really rough when u give it gas it smoothes out and it stared blowing oil out the back of the engine where it bolts to the transmission the truck has been sitting for about 2 years it also smells like it has alot of gas in the oil i dont have alot of  money and im not sure what would be the quickest cheapest way to fix it a complete rebuild kit is $504 a ring kit is $169 i do have some knoledge in mechanics any info would be helpful

  I would go for the full rebuild kit.  Along with the rings it sounds like you've also got a blown rear main seal.  If that's gone, it's a good indicator that your gaskets aren't in the best of shape.  I would have the block and head machined and checked for cracks and then go with a really basic rebuild kit.  Hope this helps.
